The American Museum in Britain
Building a special relationship with The American Museum
Mann Williams has worked with The American Museum in Britain on a range of different projects over a period of some 30 years. In this time, we’ve contributed to the sensitive upgrading and enhancement of the museum for its many visitors. Here are some of our most recent projects.

New American Garden & Entrance Pavilions- Complete March 2019
The new American Garden represented a substantial remodelling and upgrading of its landscaped gardens. Mann Williams was engaged to design and detail the structural elements of the hard landscaping and earthworks for the project, along with structural elements of the new entrance pavilions.
New Education Centre- Complete February 2011
We converted an 18th Century Coach House and Stable Block into an Education Centre Facility. The curved layout of the stable building was modified with existing trusses picked up on a new curved Vierendeel truss, creating a flexible lecture space whilst maintaining the historic elements of the building.
Café Orangery- Complete December 2008
This project involved the construction of a two storey Café Orangery building, along with the refurbishment of the existing adjacent refectory. Ground instability required the use of a piled raft foundation, while the existing topography required us to design and detail substantial retaining wall structures back into the hillside. The superstructure of the building incorporates exposed green oak trusses and timber framing, along with elevations in square chiselled, back bedded Cotswold stone.
